Important News

February 18, 2026

Dear Community,

We have an important announcement: As you may have already seen, Climate Generation has made the difficult decision to wind down organizational operations.

We know this news may bring disappointment, surprise, and sadness; we hold that with deep care. Climate Generation has been a professional and political home to many, and the work we did here is important.

Over the past year, Climate Generation explored multiple paths forward, including fundraising acceleration, restructuring, and partnership or merger options. Ultimately, it was determined that continuing operations without sufficient, reliable resources would compromise the organization’s values and the quality of work. Choosing to wind down was not a decision made lightly. How we end matters just as much as how we’ve led these past twenty years. We wanted to ensure staff had enough time to find a home for our resources and active programs, and to provide transparency and collaboration with our partners throughout the process. Read more about our programs’ new homes below.

While this is sad news, we know that there has been so much good done and that there is so much to celebrate.

This serves as a reminder of the nursery log. A tree that falls in the forest is the foundation for new growth. We know that what was built here already is nourishing what comes next. Like a nursery log that nurtures life, we see the living impact of this community in classrooms, in the strength of youth organizing in Minnesota, and in partnerships across the country. Our curricula are alive in classrooms, the youth we have co-mentored are using tools to organize their communities, and we see our partners continue the work of advocating for our communities. This work continues wherever we carry it, and there are still so many people and organizations carrying this work forward.

Over the past twenty years, Climate Generation has shared knowledge, brought people together, and supported action to address the systems perpetuating the climate crisis. We are so proud of the work the Climate Generation has accomplished, and want to celebrate with you. We never did this alone. Thank you to everyone who was a part of our journey, who shared their story, co-wrote, co-organized, co-led, co-educated, and co-created with us. From local classrooms to international climate gatherings, from our Minnesota Youth Climate Summit to climate change education book clubs, our impact was created by you: the educators, youth, and community members who came together to build relationships, deepen your understanding of climate justice solutions, and take action, organizing your own communities.

As we reflect on Climate Generation’s legacy, we are grateful for all the connections and partnerships that we’ve formed together with all of you. Thank you for building alongside us. The work continues with you!

With gratitude,

Climate Generation

WITH GRATITUDE

We feel deeply grateful for the trust you’ve put in Climate Generation over the years. Thank you for your passion, enthusiasm, curiosity, and dedication to taking action against systems perpetuating the climate crisis and creating pathways for just climate action, and thank you for your dedication and continued commitment to climate justice. It has been an honor serving this community. We hope you take what you’ve learned with Climate Generation into new spaces and sustained action; this moment demands that we be more relational, more organized, and courageous while confronting injustice.

Keep up the good fight, and please stay in touch!
