Climate Generation is thrilled to announce that Susan Phillips will become our new executive director on September 19th.
When we launched our executive director search earlier this summer, we set out to find a collaborative leader who can build on our previous successes, continue Climate Generation’s growth, increase our impact, and lead our efforts around our new strategic plan. We sought someone with experience moving organizations towards anti-racism, systemic change, and with the management skills to tap into our extraordinary team of staff and Board members. Susan brings all of this and more. We’re so excited for her to apply her passion, wisdom, and experience as she steps into this role.
“I’m super excited to join the team at Climate Generation,” Susan shared. “I look forward to advancing the organization’s important mission with our partners, communities, educators, and young people. I believe together we can craft solutions to the climate crisis.”
Susan is an activist, educator/facilitator/trainer, specialist in participatory and servant leadership, and an experienced nonprofit leader. She has led programs for unhoused youth in the Twin Cities and Central America, held leadership roles in the food justice and education justice ecosystems, and volunteered in youth leadership settings. Susan has a BA in Cultural Anthropology and a MA in Leadership Studies. When not engaged in community building projects, Susan is a backyard farmer, artist, year-round cyclist, student of life, and parent of three fantastic young adults.
As Board Chair, I’m excited that Susan is ready to lead and to grow with our organization, and I am so enthusiastic about what the future holds for Climate Generation as we continue to address the climate crisis. My sincere thanks go out to our Board and staff for continuing our organization’s outstanding work during the transition.
We hope you’ll join us in wishing a warm welcome to Susan; we look forward to our future working together with all of you.
With optimism and gratitude,
