Registration Open for Summer Institute for Climate Change Education Virtual Conference
Hosted by Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy and 13 cohorts across North America

Minneapolis, MN – Registration is open for the Summer Institute for Climate Change Education, a virtual conference for educators across the country, hosted by Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy, in partnership with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s Climate Program Office and The Wild Center’s Youth Climate Program. From July 28–30, 2021, the three-day training will provide educators with skills, tools and resources to teach climate change concepts and empower students in all subject areas.

Designed for teachers across all disciplines, the Summer Institute will encourage participants to do authentic scientific investigations, explore their personal and cultural connections to climate change, and make observations of the world around them. Attendees will explore solutions to climate change, learn how to engage students in action and teach the intersections of climate change and racial justice.

“Climate change solutions are made in the classroom, at home, and within our communities,” said Lindsey Kirkland, Climate Change Education Manager of Climate Generation. “A virtual Institute allows us to bridge the divide between the different spaces where people learn about and act on climate change. We will bring together climate scientists, social justice experts, Indigenous knowledge holders, frontline community members, and educators from across the nation to create justice-based climate change education centered on community solutions.”

13 regional cohorts across North America have partnered with Climate Generation to create an innovative, collaborative, and solutions-focused virtual conference. Each cohort leader’s organization will lead mini-workshops focusing on climate change impacts, solutions, and relationships across their specific regions. Climate Generation will lead the Midwest Cohort, attracting educators from across their existing network and region to attend and stay engaged beyond the Institute.

Registration for the 16th annual Summer Institute for Climate Change Education costs $250 and includes ongoing support throughout the year. To make the online conference inclusive and accessible to all teachers, scholarships are available for participants. Scholarship priority is given to People of Color and teachers in underserved districts. The conference counts towards 20 hours of Continuing Education and may be used towards two graduate credits (optional). The deadline for registration is July 17, 2021.
