We Launched a Podcast!

We are at a critical moment in time for the climate, and we know that 2020 will be an important year for action.

Over the past few years, we have begun exploring the relationship between climate change and the arts as an important bridge between science and our communities. We have also seen that there is a clear need to address the emotional and personal ways that people are experiencing climate change, and the arts seem to be the answer.

Our new podcast, Band Together, explores the power of storytelling through music and spoken word to make change in the world and further the climate movement. Over the course of this year we hope to dive into the relationship between the arts and the climate movement, lifting up champions who are bringing climate conversations and climate action into their artistic expression.

The podcast came out of our Band Together fundraiser concert in 2019, in collaboration with EFFECT, where over 20 musicians from Minnesota and beyond performed. We were honored to have several of the artists share their personal climate stories, grounding the evening in how climate change impacts all aspects of our lives, and how we are stronger and more effective together. You can watch the recordings of their stories and performances, ranging in themes from humor to grief and settings like farmlands and campfires.

We were honored to have Lazerbeak, a performer at our Band Together concert, sign on as our first podcast guest! I sat down with him to chat about what it was like to share his climate change story for the first time, finding his voice through music, and much more. Listen now!

We also hope to challenge our listeners to join in the action and build your own community of creative climate activists. In addition to the podcast, we’ve got a three-part webinar series you can participate in throughout the year, focusing on using your voice, choice, and vote for climate action.
