Summer Institute Cohorts
Climate Generation coordinates The Teach Climate Network, a network of over 8,000 educators dedicated to learning how to teach interdisciplinary, justice-centered climate change education. Each year, we host a group of organizations that lead cohorts of the network and help us plan our cornerstone event, the Summer Institute for Climate Change Education. Cohort leaders participate in collaborative working meetings to develop the themes, content, and structure of the Summer Institute and the following year of programming for the Teach Climate Network. In doing so, we create a community of practice around climate change education and climate justice.
Our goal to bring climate change education to every student brings many challenges. As an educator, depending on where you live and work, teaching climate change may be easy and welcome or it may be deemed inappropriate or not true. Some educators have support from peers and administrators, while others are being told not to use words like “climate change,” “equity,” and “justice.” No matter where you find yourself, you have a community of like-minded educators learning how to teach climate change.
By partnering with organizations across North America, we can localize climate change to different regions, connect educators to people doing high-quality work in their areas, and highlight the solutions and local community action taking place for climate justice.
Meet the 2024 cohort leaders:
Is your organization interested in partnering with the Network?
Climate Generation intentionally partners with climate change and climate justice education leaders and organizations from across North America to inform Network opportunities and connect educators with local experts. These leaders collectively plan the Summer Institute for Climate Change Education and inform year-round professional learning opportunities.
